Event details
Mark Sedgwick is Professor of Arab and Islamic Studies at Aarhus University in Denmark. He has written extensively on traditionalism, sufism and modernity. In this lecture, Prof Sedgwick explores different varieties of Islamic "traditionalism," showing the connections and differences between them, and their debt to Western thought as well as Islam. His talk will take as examples the Amman Message of 2004, Zaytuna College in Berkeley, California, and the thought of the late British scholar Martin Lings (Abū Bakr Sirāj ad-Dīn).
